Virtual Authorizing 101 Workshop
NACSA’s Virtual Authorizing 101 Workshop is designed for individuals looking to gain a high-level understanding of authorizing best practices. This program offers a unique opportunity for participants to network with NACSA staff, industry experts, and new/novice authorizers across the country.
Through a series of three live virtual 90-minute sessions, learners will engage in scenario-based activities. In preparation for these sessions, learners are required to complete the Authorizing 101 modules that are currently open and accessible to all in AuthoRISE and an activity packet (to be shared following registration).
A Seat at the Table- Workshop 3
Throughout 2023, NACSA will be hosting a series of conversations about making authorizing a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive field, led by Dr. Kelli Peterson. Building upon the guidance and recommendations in NACSA’s soon to be published toolkit, Dr. Peterson will lead seven workshops aimed at helping authorizers create more inclusive work cultures.
Session 3: Hostess with The Mostest: Becoming an Advocate for DEI in Your Institution and Breaking Down Equity Isolation
Session Overview:
- Explore change management strategies
- Understand what it means to agitate for change
- Identify actions that lead to equity isolation and discover strategies for resisting equity isolation
- Design a planning team to elevate, value, implement and sustain DEI as a value
THRIVE
EnTere Ed Collective, a space where black, brown, and Indigenous authorizers and authorizing-adjacent professionals thrive, is introducing the spring 2023 virtual THRIVE series. EnTere Ed Collective concentrates on providing learning opportunities to its members that is designed to strengthen the capacity, ideas, and practices of authorizing so that the charter authorizing space becomes more equitable. This spring, the series will center around 3 key priorities:
- Personal Identity and Leadership Authenticity; getting grounded in the true you and leading from that space naturally.
- Visioning; building your personal and professional vision
- Becoming a change agent
Third Thursdays
How can authorizers use Multiple Measures to assess student achievement and school quality? In this session, we will begin exploring how to credibly and reliably use Multiple Measures, as well as how to balance the science and art of data collection. Get a first look at our Multiple Measures Credibility Tool and chat with authorizers about their approaches to measurement tools and data analysis.

Session Overview:
- Recognize confirmation bias in data collection and analysis
- Explore initial areas of DEI data collection
- Discuss strategies for sharing data outcomes and trends across an institution
- Convert gaps to goals (not quotas)

- Share opportunities to build personal capacity while protecting your personal mental health

- Discuss ways to elicit internal and external advocacy for institutional DEI

In this Third Thursday session, NACSA will share our recently updated Performance Framework Guidance. While you may have a had a taste of the revised framework guidance at NACSACon 2022 in Minneapolis, we are ready to share the full meal. Come to this session to get an overview of the updates, and then dive deeper into the academic, financial, or organizational framework guidance while you begin to consider how to adapt the model to your authorizing contexts.
